Delusional happiness

According to Adam Philips: "Anyone who could maintain a state of happiness , given the state of the world, is living in a delusion." I side with both arguments for this. One the one side, I do believe that people who are perpetually happy probably don't see the world as most people do. Either they are overly optimistic or they just don't see the true nature of this world. And on the other hand, I think it's important to remain optimistic regardless of life throws at you. Being happy can be a stress reliever for some, or they've grown up to live with the world and choose to just be happy.
